SOAR recruits, trains and empowers survivors to use their voices for change.
SOAR (Sisters Overcoming Abusive Relationships) is a grassroots group of survivors of all forms of domestic violence. SOAR’s mission is to promote, advocate and work towards the elimination of domestic violence and to embody and give visibility to the voices of abused women. SOAR is not a support group, but rather an organization of women ready to make changes in the systems that allow domestic violence to exist.
What is unique about our task force is that we have chosen to organize survivors of domestic violence so that they can become empowered to speak for themselves and to choose what issues they want to address. Additionally, it is a place where women come together to learn from each other and work collectively to change systems. Furthermore, as survivors, we give courage, strength and respect to each other as we try to educate our community about life after domestic violence.

This monetary Award is given annually to organizations across the country for their work in implementing innovative solutions that fight domestic violence or serve domestic violence survivors and families. Behind Closed Doors is one such solution.
