There are many approaches to ending domestic violence against women and their families. Some focus on providing services to victims, others attempt to advocate on behalf of the victims with the criminal justice systems and state and federal legislatures.
What is unique about our organization is that we are survivors of domestic violence, empowered to speak about the crucial issues victims of domestic violence face, and the dire steps necessary to end the pain and suffering of far too many women and children.
Our members come together to educate each other and work collectively to change systems that oppress and ignore the many faces and dangers of domestic violence abuse. As survivors we give courage, strength and respect to each other as we try to educate our community about life after domestic violence.
SOAR also recruits, trains (public speaking and leadership skills) and empowers survivors to use their voices and experiences to challenge and change the areas that continue to be barriers in keeping women safe and maintaining violent free lives.
Community
Organizing Model
SOAR is a member-driven organization. Those directly affected by the issues, are the members and leaders of this organization and are involved in the decision making process, that is why SOAR has chosen to operate with the grassroots organization model.
SOAR
Staff
The SOAR Staff is made up of a Coordinator who is responsible for the overall administration of the organization.
