SOAR members help create statewide public awareness campaigns in partnership with the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV).

Campaigns are regularly developed for national Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October and Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month in February. They are also sometimes created to help build awareness and momentum for the RICADV’s legislative and policy priorities.

SOAR members are involved in planning and decision-making around campaigns. We provide input on messaging, visuals, and outreach goals to make sure that awareness strategies honor the voices and experiences of survivors, while reaching and resonating with Rhode Islanders.

SOAR Members Raise Awareness

In addition to playing an instrumental role in the development of public awareness campaigns, SOAR members often share our stories as part of these campaigns, putting a face and voice to an issue too often surrounded by silence and stigma.

SOAR members help the community understand that domestic violence happens here – in every Rhode Island city and town, to people of all ages, races, and backgrounds. We share our stories to debunk myths, challenge stereotypes, and explain why it is not easy to “just leave.” Getting out of an abusive relationship is difficult, and can be dangerous. SOAR members use our voices to send the message that healing is possible and to give hope to victims everywhere – you are not to blame, and you are not alone.
